Save our school bus route

Save our school bus route
The Issue
Every morning and after school, my 11-year-old daughter is expected to walk 2.7 miles to school in Moray, a journey that she and many of her peers must undertake in all weathers. This route is not only lengthy but dangerous, particularly as over a mile of it is on an unlit 60mph road. Despite these glaring safety concerns, Moray Council insists that an unlit road is not inherently unsafe.
the route is not treated in winter either!
The path my daughter and her friends traverse is narrow and stretches precariously along the coast of Moray Firth. It includes a bridge that is both not accessible to everyone and poorly maintained. The approach to this bridge is shrouded in darkness with only a single light illuminating its entrance, making it a daunting and potentially hazardous part of the route—especially for young children.
Moreover, the decision by Moray Council seems to disregard the Scottish Transport Guidance on school transport, which is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of schoolchildren. It is essential that the council re-evaluates their stance, taking into account the specific risks associated with this route, especially during the darker months when visibility is further reduced.
The cost of providing a safe school bus service is a small price to pay for the safety and security of our children. Encouraging them to walk this dangerous route undermines our commitment to their welfare and education.
I urge Moray Council to reconsider its decision and reinstate the school bus service for our children. We are calling for immediate action to ensure that our children can travel to and from school safely. Please support us in prioritising the safety of our young ones.
Sign this petition to demand that Moray Council restores the school bus route as the bus still continues to pass through the village just not collecting our children, we want to ensure the safe travel of our children to their education. Your signature could help make the real difference in protecting our community's future. Together, we can hold those in power accountable for our children's safety.
