Please help us Save Our Sanctuary, the additional support needs hub/ nurture room at Peterhead Central School, from alteration by Aberdeenshire Council. A vital resource for children with additional support needs, as well as those requiring a little extra nurturing; Sanctuary is a safe haven within mainstream education for those who need it allowing them the time and space to thrive as every child deserves.

Sadly on 20th May we got the devastating news that Aberdeenshire Council has ordered an end to Sanctuary as we know it. After summer our children will no longer be together as a group with their peers but placed in their own age appropriate classes, without all the additional PSAs they are used to and without access to quieter outside playtimes or the separate eating area so many depend on. It may not seem a big change to many but it is a massive upheaval to many additional support needs children, including my own.

It sounds like we're asking for a lot for our children, and we are, but what we have in Sanctuary is something I never dreamed my child and so many others would have access to. It's the support they require to thrive and learn as each child should in an environment better suited to their needs; fun, flexible and with a very unique family feel. Torn away from this our children will suffer.

Peterhead Central School have created something groundbreaking in Sanctuary, and their incredibly dedicated teachers and PSAs are a testament to how passionately they support every child they care for. So please, let them continue doing it. Let them keep Sanctuary, not only for the children already there but all the ones to come!
