Petition updateSave Our Red Squirrels: Enforce Protection Laws and Protect UK Woodland HabitatThis is a big moment for our red squirrels 🐿️

Today, I’ve announced something I’ve been quietly hoping we might reach: Britain’s first ever Save Our Reds Day, launching on 15th May to coincide with Endangered Species Day.

When I started this petition, I simply wanted to stop red squirrels being overlooked. I didn’t know if anyone would listen.

Today, we’re approaching 75,000 signatures - and that is because of you.

Every share, every signature, every conversation you’ve had with someone who didn’t quite realise what was happening – all of it has carried this further than I ever imagined.

At the heart of this campaign is something so simple, yet still widely misunderstood: red and grey squirrels are not even the same species. And once people realise that, everything starts to shift.

Save Our Reds Day is about making sure more people understand what’s really at stake – and why we cannot afford to lose one of Britain’s most iconic native species on our watch.

We’re starting to see wider support build too, from conservationists, volunteers, MPs, and many others. That matters enormously. But this has always been a grassroots movement, built by people like you – and it always will be.

If you’d like to read more about today’s announcement, including the full story and quotes, you can here:

And if you haven’t shared the petition yet, now is the moment. This is when it counts.

Thank you, as always, for being part of this 🐿️
