The woods remember… and so do we. Over 50,000 strong.
Dear friends,
Just two weeks ago, I launched this petition from my little corner of the North Pennines, never expecting it to resonate so widely, so quickly.
And yet here we are: over 50,000 of you have signed.
There’s no celebrity fronting this campaign. No corporate funding. Just a heartfelt plea to protect one of Britain’s most iconic – and most vulnerable – native animals.
Over the past week, I’ve been overwhelmed by your kindness, your shares, your messages of support – and the passion that so many of you clearly feel for our red squirrels and their disappearing woodland homes.
This isn’t just about nostalgia or sentiment. It’s about standing up for biodiversity, for the laws that should already be protecting our wildlife, and for the future of our countryside.
🐿️ Next goal: 100,000, to bring the issue before Parliament.
Let’s keep going.
📣 Please keep sharing the petition with friends, family, community groups, MPs – anyone you think might care.
Use the hashtag #SaveOurReds if you’re sharing on social media.
🌲 I’ll also be announcing the launch of my children’s book, Little Red, Warrior Squirrel, later this month. It’s inspired by this very campaign – a way of helping the next generation fall in love with these magical creatures before it’s too late.
Thank you for standing with me - and the amazing people working to protect our reds - and with our precious native reds.
With love and wild hope,
Marie Carter-Robb
