Dear friends,
What an extraordinary week it’s been!
When I launched this petition just 11 days ago, I could never have imagined the incredible wave of support that would follow.
Thanks to you, we’ve now passed 35,000 signatures - and counting.
There’s no big celebrity following or corporate campaign behind this. Just a simple message: our red squirrels are vanishing, and we can’t stand by in silence.
Over the past few days, the petition has been featured in the Yorkshire Post, Lancashire Telegraph, and Northumberland Gazette - and shared thousands of times across social media.
Your voices are making a difference.
But we’re not stopping here.
🚨 Our next target: 50,000 signatures this week
…and then 100,000, which would require the issue to be considered for debate in Parliament. Let’s do it.
Let’s make our glorious ‘red scamps’ - as they’re affectionately known in Cumbria - go viral, and turn this groundswell of support into real, lasting change.
📢 Please keep sharing the petition far and wide - and feel free to use the hashtag #SaveOurReds if you’re posting on social media.
🌲 I’ll be sharing some exciting news soon about a children’s book I’ve written, inspired by red squirrels and our beautiful British woodlands. It’s called Little Red, Warrior Squirrel, and its message is simple:
“The woods remember, the woods remain,
But only if we guard the flame.”
'Little Red', the story’s brave young squirrel, has already captured hearts - and will soon be helping to spread this campaign’s message even further.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for standing with me - and with our precious native reds.
With love and wild hope,
Marie
