Save Our Quality of Life in Springfield 19064: Stop the Overdevelopment of Coventry Woods

The Issue

Our quiet community is facing a major threat—nearly 100 townhouses, a massive medical center, and a 10-bed mini hospital that will bring traffic congestion, environmental harm, and strain on local resources.

The proposed development is located at the intersection of State and Weymouth Roads, directly next to Rolling Green apartments -- at the increasingly congested area of Route 1 between Rolling and Sproul Roads. The address is  351 N. State Rd.

Christiana Care has failed to address key concerns:

•    Traffic is already unbearable, and this development will only make it worse. The developers are using a 2018 traffic study -- before the additions to Drexeline -- as the justification for this development not affecting traffic.

•    Flooding and environmental impacts have been ignored. The 87-acre Coventry Woods is one of the last undeveloped spaces in Springfield.

•    Local resources—police, schools, and public services—will be stretched thin.

•    An abandoned hospital sits vacant less than two miles down the road adjacent to the Springfield Country Club.

We already have existing facilities that can provide better care without disrupting our neighborhood. A 10-bed hospital does little for healthcare access but hurts the quality of life for residents who have built their lives here.

The development as proposed also will change the character of our neighborhoods, with increased traffic potentially driving down our property values.

Sign our petition to demand responsible planning and protect our community! Our township commissioners will vote on the development plans at their meeting on April 8, 2025. Together, we can push for smarter solutions that serve both residents and future needs.

Thank you for your email. As the 7th ward Commissioner, I know sadly all too well regarding Springfield hospital and it’s closing. With the massive debt of Prospect and disrepair of the buildings and equipment, reopening it anytime soon does not seem possible. I had sent email after email to only go unanswered to Prospect. I have lived in Springfield within the 7th ward for majority of my life and we chose to raise our children here. I do not take this decision lightly and will weigh the pros and cons seriously over the next few weeks. Again, thank you for your email and concerns for our neighborhood. Gratefully, Meg
