Save our Parkland in Port Fairy

The issue

Moyne Shire Council is in the final planning stages of ruining one of our few beautiful parklands in Port Fairy with a mega skate park in Russell Clarke Reserve. Residents, visitors, holiday makers all come to Port Fairy for its unique history and unique and beautiful natural environment.

Background:

The Council engaged a reputable 'urban design' company, over a 3-month period, to determine the location for skate park and play area in Port Fairy. They concluded, and the Council issued a press release, that there was no ideal area for a co-located skate park and play area.

Despite this, Moyne Shire Council then engaged a mega skate park company and lo and behold this company determined that one of the most beautiful parklands and vista could be ruined to make way for one of their mega skate parks.

Totally inadequate consultation was used in the decision-making process by Council, which informed Councilors. This proposal goes against one of the key pillars in the Community Vision statement for Moyne Shire and Port Fairy.  "OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT IS OUR BIGGEST ASSET".

We, the signatories, ARE NOT AGAINST a skate facility in Port Fairy. There are other options for Council to achieve a skate park in Port Fairy without the ruination of our parkland. They just need to consult.  Original proposals by the 'urban designers' are still an option, as well as other options within Russell Clarke Reserve.

We seek to save the image and reputation of our town with its history and natural environment as being its biggest assets.

We request the council to re-engage the community consultation process fairly.

Please sign our petition to lodge your objection to and halt this project until all stakeholders are fairly engaged.
