I had a letter back from Buckingham Palace! It says private and confidential so I won’t show the whole letter, but Her Majesty did send her “good wishes” and was interested to hear of the suggestions “to make improvements to these important services in order to assist those people living in rural areas and involve them more in their local communities”.
Someone suggested I contact Her Majesty in relation to the work she does through her charity “The Queen’s Reading Room”:
The Queen’s Reading Room is a charity working to provide opportunities for the appreciation of literature among adults and children in the UK and around the world. We seek to close the gap between writers and readers through accessible, educational and free literary content available year-round. Our mission is to help more people find and connect with books which enrich their lives and turn them into lifelong readers.
The Queen is also a supporter for Active Ageing:
“Most of us know what it is like to be lonely at some time or another, but for more and more elderly people loneliness is their daily routine. All too easily, the stoic older generation can become isolated through bereavement, illness, disability, or simply because they live far from their relatives. In today’s busy world, they do not want to be a burden to their friends and families, but days without any human contact can seem endless.”
