Save our manatees, NO sea trials at Miami Boat Show 2023

Save our manatees, NO sea trials at Miami Boat Show 2023
The Issue
This upcoming Tuesday November 1st, The Miami Boat Show will be back on the Board of County Commission agenda. The applicant is asking for inclusion of sea trials from up to 150 slips for the 2023 Boat Show event and the REMAINDER OF THE 10 YEAR PERMIT. Help us ask the commissioners to DISALLOW SEA TRIALS at the upcoming Boat Show and future ones and VOTE NO ON AGENDA ITEM 5L by emailing them your concerns. (Copy and send the drafted email below)
The boat show locations at 1 Herald Plaza and Sea Isle Marina are recognized as Manatee Protection Zones, where manatees can be seen feeding and resting multiple hours a day, this area will be heavily affected by boat traffic disrupting many species that are already in distress due to the loss of seagrass in the area. Despite DERM's objections to the boat show and the sea trials, permits were granted in 2021 but it is not too late to stop the sea trials and protect our bay. (Sea trials mean that motorboats, speed boats, and yachts will be tested in the area, in this case over 150)
We know and appreciate that on-water/boating recreation is important to our economy and to our lifestyle, but this year is different: Biscayne Bay, indeed the very heart of our beautiful city, is the most fragile and weakest it's ever been. The recent fish kill and evidence of widespread anoxia (no oxygen) is our collective wake-up call. The Biscayne Bay ecosystem is too fragile to allow sea trials this year.
Take action now by sending the email below to the Board of County Commissioners and ask them to vote NO to allowing sea trials for Miami Boat show 2023 item 5L, and if you can, please show up to the county commission meeting Tuesday 9 am, 111 NW 1st St, Miami, Fl 33132. Dear Commissioners,
As a concerned resident of Miami Dade County I am writing to ask you to DISALLOW SEA TRIALS at the upcoming 2023 Boat Show, PLEASE VOTE NO ON AGENDA ITEM 5L and help protect Biscayne Bay.
The applicant Yachting Promotions, INC. is asking for “inclusion of sea trials for the 2023 Boat Show event and the REMAINDER OF THE 10 YEAR PERMIT.”
