Save Our Local Wildlife - Stop Motorbikes & Criminal Activity in Hartley Brook/Dike

The Issue

For approximately two years, my family and I have noticed a dramatic increase in criminal behaviour in the local Wildlife Reserve area known as Hartley Brook/Dike in Sheffield S5. In particular the main cause for concern surrounds the riding of off road motorcycles at dangerous speeds, which, is actually stated, are illegal to ride in the Brook. Generally we have been distressed with their inconsiderate nature and total disregard for the public that use the Brook to enjoy family walks or walk their canine friends. Also, not to mention, the disturbance to wildlife and their environment has escalated and has become a huge worry. The same inconsiderate people who ride their illegal motorbikes are also setting fire to the very bikes they ride, as well as other reckless fires. My brother, who walks our family dog daily, has definitely noticed a huge decline in other dog walkers, cyclists and young families using the paths as frequently.

We all deserve somewhere locally beautiful, filled with wildlife and greenery, where we can visit with our families, pets or friends, go for a nice walk or cycle and have a picnic. If we do not stand up and start appreciating, reserving and protecting these areas from people who have no respect or regard for their environment (and others) these wonderful areas will cease to exist and these people will be allowed to continue with their destructive behaviour for their own selfish pleasures.

If we do not take action now, we will lose the ability and privilege to enjoy nature in an accessible and local setting. We cannot continue to risk the safety of our wildlife or the destruction of their habitat within our neighbourhood. We must also acknowledge the dangers to users of the Brook. If nothing is done, then it is inevitable that someone will get hurt, or worse.
