We, the taxpayers of Lincoln County, would like for our local government to represent our concerns, beliefs, and expectations for the proper management of our local Animal Shelter, a much-needed public program that ensures proper care and humane treatment of all animals. Their required budget is greater than the $75,000.00 given to them by the City and the $62,000.00 they receive from the County. This facility is operated full-time and requires not only money for staffing (no benefits) but food and medication for the animals, vet bills, utilities, transportation (vehicle upkeep and fuel), facility maintenance, etc. which most "departments" do not contend with. Keep in mind, that The Humane Society is a non-profit organization that had agreed to take on animal control as well as animal services. They do not own the building that houses these animals although they have been responsible for maintaining and upgrading it when necessary; all with funds raised by them personally.
