Save our farmstands

Save our farmstands
The Issue
Our community is thriving with entrepreneurial spirit, and many residents, like us, have chosen to build our businesses right from the comfort of our own homes. My family operates a local roadside farmstand that has served our community with cottage goods, garden produce, and handmade items for almost 2 years. It is not just a business; it's a part of our community- our neighbors love our little free library for children’s book, free seed library, and bring their dogs on walks for free dog treats.
Unfortunately, due to current zoning regulations, our roadside stand, Little Pig Farmstand, has been shut down, threatening our livelihood and the service we provide to the community.
We are not alone. There are numerous home-based businesses in our county that could be restricted by these outdated and overly strict zoning laws. These regulations are hampering local economic growth, and contradict Idaho’s amazing cottage food laws.
Given the rise in home-based entrepreneurship, it is essential to adjust these regulations.
We propose a revision of the zoning laws to accommodate home based business owners. Specific zoning amendments could include the allowance for low-impact home businesses, clear guidelines to maintain neighborhood integrity, and streamlined processes for obtaining necessary permits. Other counties near us do have ordinances in place to allow for home businesses like ours, we hope to adopt a similar text to our zoning regulations.
By signing this petition, you can help us advocate for a change that not only impacts us but also strengthens the economic framework of our entire community. We have an amazing community, let’s stand together and urge our local officials to allow home businesses to operate from their homes.
