The Issue
For generations, the twinkling Christmas lights of South Connellsville have brought warmth and joy to our community. These lights are more than just decorations; they hold cherished memories of the many hands that worked tirelessly to uphold this beautiful tradition. Each winter, families from our community and beyond gather to marvel at the unique display, creating memories that last a lifetime.
Throughout December—and extending well into January for our "January for Jesus" celebration—our lights serve as a beacon of community spirit and festivity. Many visitors journey from neighboring areas to witness our vibrant lights, contributing not only to the festive cheer but also to the local economy.
However, our cherished tradition is under threat. West Penn has decided to take down these beloved lights, a decision that stands to overshadow the happiness and unity they bring each year. It’s not just about the loss of lights; it’s about losing a part of what makes South Connellsville unique and special.
These lights are integral to our identity, fostering a sense of unity, historical continuity, and joy. They represent years of collective effort, imagination, and devotion. Remembering the many individuals who contributed to creating this enchanting experience, we owe it to them—and to ourselves—to find a way to preserve this tradition.
We urge West Penn to reconsider their decision and work with our community to find a solution that allows these lights to shine bright once more. Whether that means employing alternative methods of installation, securing funding for maintenance, or any other creative solution, we are willing and eager to collaborate.
Let us come together to protect this beloved piece of our hometown's heritage. Sign this petition and help us save South Connellsville's Christmas lights for future generations to enjoy.
