Save our Caymanian HERITAGE Christmas Clean-up TRADITION our ancestors did 100's of years!

Save our Caymanian HERITAGE Christmas Clean-up TRADITION our ancestors did 100's of years!
The Issue
Keep the Annual Bulk Waste Collection in December — Every Year!
We, the undersigned Caymanians and residents who love and respect CAYMANIAN HERITAGE, humbly but strongly petition the Government to:
Permanently restore and protect the traditional December Bulk Waste Collection as an official annual event — every single year, alongside the existing May hurricane-prep collection (two collections per year).
OR
At the very least, move the single annual Bulk Waste Collection back to November/December WHERE IT RIGHTFULLY BELONGS FOR GENERATIONS.
Why this matters:
For hundreds of years, long before DEH even existed, Caymanian families have always “turned out de yard” at the end of the year! We haul fresh white sand from the beach, we rake, we burn bush, we line the edges with conch shells, we clean up, and we put out old mattresses, broken fridges, and storm-battered zinc so the place looks sweet for Christmas and the New Year!
This is not just cleaning...THIS IS CAYMANIAN CULTURE AND HERITAGE IN ACTION — a sacred ritual of renewal, pride, and family togetherness that our grandparents, great-grandparents, and their parents before them carried out every December without fail.
It is the CLEANING AND FRESH SAND AT CHRISTMAS TIME.
It is children learning from nana and papa how to rake a yard “proper.”
It is neighbours helping neighbours drag out heavy rubbish because “we family.”
IT IS THE REASON OUR ISLANDS ALWAYS LOOKED THEIR ABSOLUTE BEST FOR THE HOLIDAYS!
In 2023 and 2024, the people spoke loud and clear — when Government tried to take December away, we still put out our bulk waste because THIS TRADITION LIVES IN OUR BLOOD!
Government listened then and gave us the collection both years. Now again in 2025 we are being threatened “no more.”
We say: TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF OUR CAYMANIAN HERITAGE!
Two collections a year costs more money, yes — but protecting the soul of Caymanian Christmas is priceless! If budget is the issue, we the people are willing to discuss fair solutions (whatever it takes).
All we ask is: DO NOT ERASE ONE OF THE OLDEST AND MOST CHERISHED CAYMANIAN TRADITIONS FOR THE SAKE OF CONVENIENCE!
We demand that the December Bulk Waste Collection be made permanent — every year — because CAYMANIAN CULTURE IS NOT NEGOTIABLE!
Signed and shared with cultural pride!
