We recently faced an unimaginable loss: my nephew  tragically passed away just weeks ago, leaving behind three brothers aged 18, 16, and 15. This followed the heartbreak of losing there dad  a blow none of us could have anticipated. Now, in the midst of our grieving, we face a new crisis. The Edinburgh council has decided to evict my nephews, leaving them with nowhere to turn but the streets.

These boys, reeling from the loss of their father and brother, need the community's support more than ever. They deserve a chance to mourn without the added trauma of homelessness. At such a young age, stability and security are crucial to their wellbeing and future prospects. Research shows that being housed is integral to a child's mental health and educational success; both would be compromised by living on the streets.

We respectfully urge the Edinburgh council to reconsider their decision. Instead of eviction, let us work together to find a more humane solution. Options like temporary housing, financial support for rent, or facilitated access to appropriate social services could provide these children the opportunity to heal and thrive post-trauma.
