St Paul’s Anglican Church is a significant part of Goomalling’s heritage, identity, and community story. We, the undersigned, oppose its demolition and call for the building to be preserved and repurposed as a vibrant community asset.

This church is one of the few remaining historic structures in our town and holds deep cultural, social, and family significance for many residents. Rather than losing it forever, we believe it should be transformed into a community art space and artist‑in‑residence hub, providing opportunities for exhibitions, workshops, creative development, youth engagement, and cultural events.

Preserving the church will protect our local heritage, strengthen community wellbeing, and create a unique space that supports creativity, connection, and lifelong learning. With community support, grant funding, and local partnerships, this building can be restored and reactivated—ensuring it remains a valued part of Goomalling’s future rather than being demolished.

We respectfully request that the Anglican Arch Diocese halt any plans for demolition and work with the community to pursue adaptive reuse of the church as a creative and cultural facility.

  The church is a complete, stand‑alone hall, structurally sound and in good condition aside from the ceilings. To construct an equivalent building today — using comparable materials, craftsmanship, ceiling height, and architectural detail — would cost well in excess of one million dollars.

The Shire of Goomalling has received a demolition application from the Anglican Church Archdiocese of Perth and is now seeking community input. In response, I have also contacted the Anglican Church directly to request that management of the site be transferred to a community organisation, allowing the building to be preserved and repurposed rather than demolished. The petition is a secondary measure should that request fail, as Council is required to respond.
