Why this petition matters

Seward city airport is in line for runway demo and extention of the current shorter runway. Removing the current long runway leaves no option to land in the event of extreme crosswinds. Which occur regularly. Pilots depend on having a second runway. During the 1964 earthquake the only way to deliver supplies was by air, using both runways. As many sewardites have spoken out about this, it has fallen on deaf ears. People outside of Seward are making decisions for our community airport without knowledge of flying or landing planes here. In the event we do have another earthquake of this magnitude, we will need two runways to access our town. In addition to the removal of the long runway they will clearcut all the property leading up to my families property as well as the long time seward swim hole. " located at the beginning of the airport where everyone runs their dogs." They will surround it with a large barb wire fence.

**One solution would be to put the river back where it was originally and re- master the long runway that already exists. Allowing the wildlife, including bald eagles nests that have been there for many many years and old tree growth to remain. I am concerned for the community, and for my children. It would be in Sewards best interest to re-address this issue before they start the project. Coming this summer. Surprise!! Lets stand up for the people who actually depend on this airport.
