The Issue

Dear fellow 349 passengers,

TfL has recently announced the London bus cuts and 349 is one of them. They have proposed to permanently withdraw the entire route subject to a 6 week consultation that started 01/06/2022. The 349 has been a vital route mostly for the London borough of Enfield and will continue to do so for as long as it is running. The bus runs From Ponders End to Stamford Hill and it is a much quicker route to Edmonton Green than the 191, the main purpose of the 349 was to partly withdraw the northern section of the 149 as that route was already long enough and added excruciating stress to drivers.

Permanently removing this route will have a traumatic impact on those who use the 349 on a regular basis including children after school finding their way to get home, elderly passengers that come on to go to the shops. Withdrawing the 349 bus route is not the answer and this will not be easy on those who need the bus the most, especially school days when their only hope is to take the 191 or 279, these buses will be packed and thus unsafe for both drivers and other passengers. The 349 route is also important to those who need to get to Stamford Hill so that they can take the 253 or 254 to continue their journey to work.

I cannot stress enough how important this route is especially how busy it is getting, now that we are coming out of COVID. Other bus routes will suffer with the sheer amount of passengers they would have to take on board if the 349 is axed but most importantly the people of Haringey and Enfield will suffer the most. Its absence will be a blow to residents who depend upon it.

Although the route 259 has been proposed to extend to Ponders end and the 279 has been proposed to divert to Stamford Hill but the 349 does it the best as it carries more passengers than the 259 and most importantly, the 259 is not going to get beyond Holloway and the same thing goes for the 476 as it will not get beyond Newington Green, thus this alone makes it frustrating to passengers to get to King's Cross especially when the London Underground Tube is on strike as if the cut back from Euston on the 476 was bad enough, this is going to be infuriating as bus drivers will lose their jobs more cause of TfL is falling apart. And yet this creates an alarming effect.

My suggestion is that they should extend the 349 to Enfield Town thus branching out for other schools and shops etc.
