The Issue

We are petitioning the Ministry of Finance, Consumer Protection Board, Ministry of Transportation, Skilled Trades Ontario, The Auditor General and the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA).

To the Hardworking Technicians and the Drivers of Ontario,

Our cars are more advanced than ever, yet the industry responsible for keeping them safe is being systematically dismantled. As auto body technicians and restoration specialists, we see the truth every day: Insurance companies are prioritizing profits over your safety.

Currently, the industry is at a breaking point due to:

• Insurance Overreach: Insurers are forcing "half-fast" repairs, cutting legitimate labor hours on safety-critical estimates, and pushing the use of inferior parts just to save a dollar.

• Conflict of Interest: Insurance companies are increasingly owning their own repair facilities, creating a "closed loop" where they control the estimate, the repair, and the payment—choking out independent shops and suppressing wages.

• The Wage Gap: Despite requiring thousands of hours of highly specialized training, auto body technicians are consistently paid significantly less than other trades. This is driving the best talent out of the industry, leaving your vehicle’s safety in the hands of fewer and fewer qualified professionals.

Starting July 1, 2026, Ontario’s auto insurance system is undergoing a major overhaul. If we don't act now, the "skilled trade" of auto body repair will disappear, and the safety of the vehicles on our roads will be compromised.

We are calling for "The Watchdogs" to return. We demand:

1. Legislative Oversight: Strict regulations to stop insurance companies from dictating unsafe repair methods.

2. Fair Labor Standards: A standardized, transparent labor rate that reflects the high level of skill required for modern vehicle restoration.

3. End the Conflict of Interest: Legislation to prevent insurance companies from owning or having a controlling interest in the shops they send claims to.

Sign this petition to tell the Ontario Government: Our skills matter. Our shops matter. And most importantly, the safety of Ontario drivers is NOT for sale.
