Save Newtown, Ohio and its important history

Save Newtown, Ohio and its important history
Why this petition matters

Newtown is a small, yet full-of-life village in South Eastern Hamilton County Ohio, with a est. population of 2,671 according to the 2021 census. Newtown, Ohio is brimming with native history, with decades of traditions, while also being home to multigenerational families and businesses. There are currently development plans that aims to add many new residency buildings to the heart of Newtown. This would forever change and harm this town, its people, and its history.
Newtown first settled under it's original name of Mercersburg in 1792, incorporating into a village in 1901, then finally forming into a paper township in the 1960's while withdrawing from Anderson township. This town is also home to unearthed indian mounds and Adena and Hopewell sites such as; Odd Fellows Cemetery Mound, Perlin Village Native American site, and Hahn Field just outside of the town. This would surely affect the historical sites with construction and demolition. The town is home to the Newtown United Methodist church (est. 1798), Newtown Elementary (now Miami Valley Christian Academy), St. John Fisher, and First Baptist Church of Newtown. The folks of Newtown also have traditions such as fish fry that runs every Friday during Lent. Winter Fest is also a very popular tradition that happens in December. These traditions would be lost due to the development of the neighborhoods, and demolition of buildings.
There are currently development plans to build 216+ apartments, townhouses, and amenities in the heart of Newtown. this would disturb traffic due to the new development and construction, water storm management with the new development, emergency services due to increased residents and crowed layout, and green space as development will have a severe impact on wildlife. This will effectively displace and destroy families, businesses, historical and native archaeological sites, as well as forever changing the town, making it a former shell of what it was. This issue is very important to my family and I, my friends, and overall the residents of this town. I urge everyone to sign, and share this petition to give to Newtown council, Mayor and whomever necessary to stop this before it's too late.
