Growing up in Cranston, one of my fondest memories was walking down to Garden City with my mother on warm summer Sunday evening. We would indulge in irresistible ice cream sodas at Newport Creamery. My mother always chose coffee flavor while I delighted in chocolate. More than 40 years later, this cherished tradition continues as we still visit for our favorite treats. 

With a heavy heart, we learned that after 63 incredible years, Newport Creamery in Garden City, a significant Rhode Island institution, is planned to close. This establishment isn't merely a store. It represents decades of family memories, laughter, and local culture. It's one of the original stores that graced Garden City as it was being developed—a beacon of family-friendly dining that has brought together generations of patrons from across Rhode Island and beyond. 

Newport Creamery is renowned for its unique offerings like the 'Awful Awfuls' and 'Jimmy Rolls,' which are treasures of Rhode Island tradition. The thought of losing such an essential part of our community is disheartening. 

We urge the Garden City Center management and local authorities to step in to prevent the closure of this beloved establishment. There are always solutions to revive businesses, whether it involves community support, partnerships, or new business strategies.
