Save Morisset’s Land for the Community — Not More Housing

The issue

The former Morisset Golf Course was once a major community space. In 2019 it was shut down. In 2021, we were promised a $235 million “Cedar Mill” project with an amphitheatre, water park, shops, and facilities that would give something back to Morisset.

But by 2025, that project has collapsed. At the same time, part of the land has already been sold to Ingenia Communities for an over-55s housing estate, approved through a State loophole. Now the rest of the land is at risk of being carved up for more housing, with Morisset families and young people left with nothing.

This petition is not about stopping growth. It is about making sure this land is used for the benefit of the whole community — not just more housing estates. Whether that means new shops, a water park, sports facilities, youth spaces, or even a smaller cultural venue, the people of Morisset deserve something that gives back.

We call on Lake Macquarie City Council to:

Oppose any further residential or over-55s expansion on the site unless there is a binding agreement to deliver real community benefits.
Require a Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) that secures:

  • No-net-loss of public open space,
  • An early-delivered youth/recreation facility,
  • Traffic upgrades with clear timelines and staging triggers,
  • Active transport links to the station and town centre.
  • Publish quarterly updates on ownership, development applications, and developer contributions for transparency.
  • Morisset has already lost its golf course. We were promised something bigger and better, and so far, we’ve ended up with housing and no community facilities. If we don’t act now, we risk losing the rest.

Sign this petition to tell Council and our representatives: Save Morisset’s land for the community — not more housing.
