ನಾವು, ಮಿಮ್ಸ್ (ಮಂಡ್ಯ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಗಳ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ) ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರು, ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ವರ್ಗ ಮತ್ತು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳು, ನಮ್ಮ ಆವರಣದ ಹೃದಯಭಾಗವನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಈ ತುರ್ತು ಅಭಿಯಾನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಮಿಮ್ಸ್ ಆಟದ ಮೈದಾನದಲ್ಲೇ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸ ಕೊಠಡಿಗಳು (lecture halls) ಮತ್ತು ವಸತಿ ನಿಲಯಗಳನ್ನು (hostels) ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲು ಹೊಸ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವನೆಯೊಂದನ್ನು ಮಂಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯ ಅಗತ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಾವು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರೂ, ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಏಕೈಕ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಮುಕ್ತ ಜಾಗವನ್ನು ಬಲಿ ಕೊಡುವುದು ಇಡೀ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಶಾಶ್ವತ ಹಾನಿ ಉಂಟುಮಾಡುವ ಒಂದು ದುರದೃಷ್ಟಕರ ನಿರ್ಧಾರವಾಗಿದೆ.

ನಾವು ಮಿಮ್ಸ್ ಆಟದ ಮೈದಾನವನ್ನು ಏಕೆ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಬೇಕು?

* ನಮ್ಮ ಏಕೈಕ ಹಸಿರು ವಲಯ (Green Lung): ಈ ಆಟದ ಮೈದಾನವು ನಮ್ಮ ಆವರಣದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಉಸಿರಾಟದ ಜಾಗವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದರ ಬದಲಿಗೆ ಕಾಂಕ್ರೀಟ್ ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಬೆಳೆದ ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಪರಿಸರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ನಾಶವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

* ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಯೋಗಕ್ಷೇಮ: ದಿನನಿತ್ಯದ ಕ್ರೀಡೆಗಳು, ದೈಹಿಕ ಕಸರತ್ತು, ನಡಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಿಸುವ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿ ಆಟವಾಡಲು ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ ಏಕೈಕ ಜಾಗ ಇದಾಗಿದೆ.

* ಸಮುದಾಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯ: ಸಂಜೆಯ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಮನರಂಜನೆಯಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದು ನಮ್ಮ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಕೂಟಗಳವರೆಗೆ, ಈ ಜಾಗವು ಕ್ಯಾಂಪಸ್ ಜೀವನ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಥಿಕ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರಬಿಂದುವಾಗಿದೆ.

* ಜೀವನ ಮಟ್ಟ: ಜನದಟ್ಟಣೆಯ ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳಿಂದ ಕ್ಯಾಂಪಸ್ ಅನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ, ಮಿಮ್ಸ್ ಅನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಮನೆ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುವ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರ ಜೀವನ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಲಸದ ವಾತಾವರಣವು ತೀವ್ರವಾಗಿ ಹದಗೆಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಎಂಬುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಸರವನ್ನು ಬಲಿಗೊಟ್ಟು ಬರಬಾರದು. ಈ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವನೆಯನ್ನು ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ತಡೆಹಿಡಿಯಬೇಕೆಂದು ಮತ್ತು ನಮ್ಮ ಅತ್ಯಗತ್ಯ ಹಸಿರು ಜಾಗವನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪದ ಪರಿಹಾರಗಳನ್ನು (ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಲಂಬವಾದ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆ ಅಥವಾ ಕ್ರೀಡೇತರ ಪ್ಲಾಟ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವುದು) ಅನ್ವೇಷಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ನಾವು ಆಡಳಿತ ಮಂಡಳಿಯನ್ನು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ.

We, the students, faculty, staff, and resident families of MIMS (Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences), have launched this urgent petition to protect the heart of our campus. A new proposal has been introduced to construct lecture halls and hostels on the MIMS playground. While we understand the need for institutional growth, sacrificing our last major open space is a devastating action that will permanently harm the entire community.

Why must we protect the MIMS Playground?

Important green space: The playground is the primary breathing space on campus. Replacing it with concrete structures means losing mature trees and destroying our local ecosystem.

Health and Well-being: This ground is the only area available for daily sports, fitness, walking, and a safe place for resident children to play.

Community and Tradition: From casual evening recreation to our official annual sports fests, this space is central to campus life and institutional culture.

NSS Activities : The ground is a vital campus center, serving as the main venue for NSS activities and environmental plantation drives.

Quality of Life: Overcrowding the campus with high-density buildings will severely degrade the living and working conditions of everyone who calls MIMS home.

We understand that development is necessary, but not at the cost of our health and environment. We urge the administration to immediately halt this proposal and explore alternative architectural solutions—such as vertical expansion or utilizing non-recreational plots—that preserve our essential green space.
