The Issue

My children have all attended Longcroft School, and part of their future plans included attending Longcroft Sixth Form for further education. The potential closure of Longcroft Sixth Form is deeply concerning for our family and many others in the Beverley community in East Yorkshire. This educational institution offers crucial support and opportunities that lay the groundwork for the future careers and lives of countless students.

Longcroft Sixth Form not only provides excellent academic opportunities but also offers a nurturing environment where students can thrive both personally and academically. It is a place where students develop their skills, passions, and ambitions, preparing them excellently for higher education or the workforce. The closure would mean uprooting these established lives and forcing students to find alternate institutions, which might not offer the same level of personal care and attention.

The economic and logistical implications for students and families are significant. Many students rely on the close proximity to their homes, which reduces commuting time and costs. Additionally, the prospect of transferring to another school may not only disrupt their academic journey but also strain their mental health during an already challenging stage of life.

The community values Longcroft Sixth Form for its dedicated faculty and comprehensive educational programs, which are tailored to cater to a variety of student needs and interests. The decision to close this valuable institution is short-sighted, and it overlooks the quality education and the strong community bonds established over the years. Instead, we should be exploring ways to sustain and grow the Sixth Form through community and governmental support. There are feasible solutions such as fundraising initiatives, local business partnerships, or requests for additional government funding to keep this institution open.

We urge the local education authorities and government officials to reconsider this decision and explore alternative measures to ensure the survival and thriving of Longcroft Sixth Form. Its significance to the Beverley community cannot be overstated. Please sign this petition to let our voices be heard and to stand against the closure of an institution that has served us well for many generations.
