Save Locomotive 202 by keeping it in Hagerstown, Maryland to be cosmetically restored
The Issue
Locomotive 202 is a historically significant K-2 "Pacific" Steam Engine currently located at the Hagerstown City Park Train Hub Museum. It was "dedicated to the Children of Hagerstown" in 1953 by the Western Maryland Railway. It was donated to Hagerstown specifically due to the amount of residents that contributed to the Railway systems throughout Maryland. Children have been able to board the cabin, ring the bell, and look at the gauges up close since it was donated. It would be a blow to the City's tourism and for the future generations of Hagerstown children should the train ever be relocated.
The steam engine 202 is housed in a partial pavilion and has been distressed by the weather and outdoor elements since its last cosmetic restoration in 2008.
It is our cause to have the City of Hagerstown review options for the train's future, backing the outcome that Locomotive 202 stay in Hagerstown and get cosmetically restored.
The City of Hagerstown currently has $633,000.00 in grant funding for the project of cosmetically restoring the train. It comes down to getting a reasonable bid for the visual reconstruction of Locomotive 202.
Let's come together as concerned citizens of Hagerstown and stand up to keep Locomotive 202 in Hagerstown, MD.
