Save Local Small Business “New Age Coffee” in Brunswick
The issue
We are deeply concerned by the abrupt decision by VicTrack to demand that New Age Coffee vacate its premises with only five business days' notice. This small, female-owned business, run by Emily Coppock, has been an integral part of the Brunswick community for nearly six years. New Age Coffee is not just a café; it is a cherished space that brings people together, from university students to families, friends, and colleagues.
We strongly believe that a business like New Age Coffee deserves more than just a few days notice before being forced to close.
The lack of communication and consideration for the livelihood of the owner and her staff is deeply upsetting. The café has built a loyal customer base who feel like family, and the decision to close it so abruptly has left us in shock and disbelief.
We urge VicTrack to reconsider this decision, take into account the tremendous impact it will have on the community, and provide a fair and reasonable timeline for New Age Coffee to relocate. The lack of adequate notice or meaningful consultation is particularly disheartening, as it shows little regard for the livelihoods of business owners and the broader impact on the community.
As a dedicated small business owner, Emily has invested considerable time, money, and effort into establishing New Age Coffee as a community hub in Brunswick. This eviction jeopardizes not only her business but also the livelihoods of her employees and the loyalty of customers.
Our landlord has asked VicTrack for a 4 month extension. We were led to believe we would be trading until the Level Crossing Removal got underway in 2028. We were hoping to get support on this matter- we don’t know what else to do.
This café is more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee; it is a safe space for connection, support, and community. Please join us in showing VicTrack how much New Age Coffee means to all of us.
