Save Lithuanian Neringa Stovykla!

The Issue

As a concerned member of the Neringa community, I am writing this petition to express my deep concern over the proposed plan to switch the time of Lithuanian Stovykla with English Stovykla. This decision has the potential to negatively impact our beloved Neringa and jeopardize its unique cultural experience.

Personal Story:
Neringa holds a special place in my heart. It is where I have spent countless summers, creating lifelong friendships and embracing my Lithuanian heritage. The stovyklos (camps) at Neringa have always been an integral part of this experience, allowing us to connect with our roots, learn our language, and celebrate our traditions.

However, I recently learned about a proposal by Neringa's administration to switch the timing of Lithuanian Stovykla with English Stovykla. This decision would disrupt the long-standing tradition and essence of what makes Neringa so special.

Reasons for Opposition:

1. Cultural Preservation: Switching the time of Lithuanian Stovykla would undermine our efforts in preserving and promoting Lithuanian culture among younger generations. By prioritizing English-speaking campers over those who wish to immerse themselves in their heritage language, we risk diluting the very essence that makes Neringa unique.

2. Language Acquisition: Research consistently shows that early exposure to a second language enhances cognitive development and fosters greater intercultural understanding. By switching stovyklas' timing, we deny young campers an opportunity to fully engage with their mother tongue during these crucial formative years.

3. Community Impact: The proposed change would not only affect individual campers but also disrupts established relationships within the community as families may be forced to choose between attending different stovyklas due to conflicting schedules.

4. Loss of Putnamas: Lithuanian Stovykla is renowned for its iconic Putnamas, a traditional celebration that brings campers together to share stories, songs, and memories. Switching the timing of stovyklas would likely result in the loss or significant alteration of this cherished tradition.

We urge Neringa's administration to reconsider their decision and prioritize the preservation and enrichment of our Lithuanian heritage. Let us work together to ensure that future generations can continue to experience the magic of Neringa as we have.
