The Gardens Trust is a UK charity that works to protect and conserve historic parks and gardens.
Currently they are a statutory consultee for any planning applications that affect parks, gardens and landscapes listed on Historic England's Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of special historic interest.
Leazes Park - as Newcastle's oldest public park - is listed on Historic England's register and, as such, any planning application with the potential to affect the park - including a potential extension of St James' Park - would have to consult the Gardens Trust.
But the Government is now proposing to remove the Gardens Trust from the list of statutory consultees.
If you are concerned about losing historic parks and gardens, email your MP now and urge them to object to plans to remove the Gardens Trust as a statutory consultee in the English planning system.
