Save LAPS and Protect Langley’s Animals
The Issue
Animals cannot speak for themselves, and that is why organizations like the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) are so vital. For over 23 years, LAPS has been at the heart of animal welfare in our community, providing a sanctuary for lost and abandoned pets in Langley, BC, Canada. They have tirelessly worked to reunite pets with their families, run life-saving adoption programs, and deliver essential community services such as the pet food bank, subsidized veterinary care, and vital spay/neuter initiatives.
Despite their invaluable contributions, the Township of Langley has decided to end its contract with LAPS. This decision not only threatens the safety and well-being of countless animals who rely on LAPS for care and protection, but also undermines the critical services that support our community's less fortunate pet owners.
LAPS has been a cornerstone of compassion and action, ensuring that every animal, regardless of their background, is treated with dignity and given a chance at a better life. Their programs do not just support the animals—they also provide relief to families in need and promote responsible pet ownership through education and outreach.
Ending LAPS’ contract jeopardizes the continuation of these programs, which could result in increased cases of animal abandonment, untreated medical conditions, and unmanageable population growth from unspayed or neutered pets. Such outcomes would place an even heavier burden on already strained animal rescue resources.
We call on the Township of Langley to reconsider this decision and work collaboratively with LAPS to continue their contract. By preserving this partnership, we can ensure the humane and ethical treatment of animals and maintain the crucial community services that improve the quality of life for pets and people alike.
Sign this petition to help save LAPS and safeguard the future of animal welfare in Langley. Together, let’s raise our voices for those who cannot speak for themselves.
