Save Langston!!
The Issue
We are deeply concerned about the recent changes being implemented at Langston. The removal of homeroom, the earlier start time of 7:50 AM, and the cancellation of the pep rally are not just small adjustments—they fundamentally alter the student experience and diminish the sense of community and school spirit that make Langston unique. Homeroom has always served as a critical space for students to get settled, receive important information, and connect with teachers before beginning the day. Starting school earlier places additional strain on students, especially those with long commutes, morning responsibilities, or health needs that require adequate rest. And eliminating the pep rally removes one of the few traditions that unify and energize our student body. These decisions risk creating an environment that feels rigid and impersonal, rather than one that fosters connection, pride, and engagement. We believe there are better solutions that maintain both academic priorities and the well-being of the students. We urge the administration to reconsider these changes and to work with students, parents, and staff to preserve the traditions and structures that define the Langston experience. Let’s come together to protect what makes our school a vibrant and supportive community.
