Save Lake Sinclair: Demand Action to Control Hydrilla Now

Save Lake Sinclair: Demand Action to Control Hydrilla Now
The Issue
To: Georgia Power & Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
SUMMARY: Hydrilla is taking over Lake Sinclair—blocking access, hurting property values, and damaging recreation. We need a proven solution now.
Lake Sinclair is one of Georgia’s most valuable recreational lakes, supporting more than 15,000 property owners and countless visitors each year. Today, that resource is under serious threat from the rapid spread of hydrilla (Hydrilla verticillata), an invasive aquatic plant that is overtaking large portions of the lake.
Hydrilla is choking shorelines, clogging coves, and making boating, swimming, and fishing access difficult or impossible in many areas. For homeowners, it is preventing access to docks and open water. For the broader community, it is negatively impacting property values, tourism, and local businesses.
While some chemical treatments have been attempted, they have not delivered consistent or lasting results. Without decisive action, hydrilla will continue to spread and further degrade Lake Sinclair.
There is a proven, environmentally responsible solution.
At Lake Thurmond, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the introduction of sterile (triploid) grass carp has proven to be highly successful in controlling hydrilla. This approach minimizes the need for repeated chemical treatments and restores balance to the ecosystem.
We are calling on Georgia Power and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to take immediate action:
• Develop and implement a long-term comprehensive hydrilla management plan that includes the introduction of sterile carp
Lake Sinclair is too important to allow invasive species to take control. We must act now to protect access, property values, and the long-term health of the lake.
Sign this petition to demand action and help restore Lake Sinclair.
