The Issue

La Conner has always held a special place in my heart, and one of my cherished traditions is the weekly 'LaConner Live' event every Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gilkey Square. It brings life, music, and community to our town, creating a vibrant atmosphere where locals and visitors alike can enjoy live performances together.

The proposed decibel level regulations are threatening the very essence of this event, imposing restrictions that  reduces the enjoyment and accessibility of these gatherings. While respecting local noise ordinances is essential, an exemption or adjustment for cultural activities like LaConner Live, similar to those offered for parades and special events, seems both practical and necessary.

Research shows that community events such as these contribute significantly to local economies and enhance community well-being. According to a study by the National Endowment for the Arts, engagement in arts and culture activities increases social cohesion and community vitality. LaConner Live brings people together, encourages local business involvement, and enhances our town's charm and appeal.

We propose a reasonable compromise:  approve a noise variance , or set a level high enough for live music  90 - 110 db. This regulation allows performers to engage audiences without exceeding noise thresholds that would disturb the town’s peace.

By supporting this petition, you'll be helping to retain an invaluable cultural and social fabric that unites us every week.

Please join me in asking the Town of La Conner Officials and Community Decision-Makers to keep LaConner Live as the cornerstone of our community. Sign the petition to ensure music and joy continue to resonate at Gilkey Square, where they belong.
