Wesfarmers has suggested that the closure of the Port Adelaide Kmart will be compensated by the availability of their other two stores in West Lakes and Churchill. However, this solution is inadequate and fails to acknowledge the significant inconvenience it will impose on the residents of Port Adelaide. Many people in our community rely on the convenience of our local Kmart, and having to travel extra kilometers to reach alternative stores is an unnecessary burden.

For generations, Kmart has been an integral part of the Port Adelaide community. Countless local individuals, especially young people, have found their first job at Kmart, gaining valuable skills and experience. Moreover, Kmart is a core tenant of the recently redeveloped Port Plaza that has become has a gathering place for friends and families, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

We firmly believe that Wesfarmers should recognise the deep connection between the Port Adelaide community and our beloved Kmart store. The closure of this establishment not only disregards our long-standing relationship but also undermines the economic vitality and social fabric of our community.
