SAVE KLUTE: A Durham Institution for 40-Years

SAVE KLUTE: A Durham Institution for 40-Years
The Issue
Klute nightclub has been operating for over 40 years and has been a hub for student culture and music. The company that owns it, Tokyo Industries, closed the venue on the 23rd of April 2024. This closure is not permanent and can be changed!!!
We at Fractal, others at Rock Society and Detonation have been running events in Klute for over a year now. Our events were a space showcasing student bands and DJs, giving them a chance to share their love of music and a nights out. It became a hub for student alternative music culture with some nights filling out all 3 rooms.
Since Covid, 31% of UK nightlife venues have closed down and the situation is becoming endemic upon UK night culture. Durham's club scene needs places like Klute. It was a place that gave every student a sense of belonging whether that be at a Rock Night, SNK, or even in chaotic basement.
Klute is a right of passage for every young person in Durham, often their first experience of clubbing.
It may be the worst nightclub in Europe, but it was our best club in the Durham. Help us fight back against this onslaught against club and rave culture, nights out and having a good time. Sign this petition to save our club
