Save Kinnicutt/Bettencourt Farm

Save Kinnicutt/Bettencourt Farm

The Issue

Help us save Kinnicutt/Bettencourt Farm!

Warren Citizens for Appropriate Development is seeking to acquire the historic 18-acre Kinnicutt/Bettencourt Farm in Warren, RI, currently slated for dense development. That development would include over a hundred apartment units, sixteen homes, two hundred parking spaces, and several acres of deep detention basins, all on about ten acres. The intent of preserving the Kinnicut/Bettencourt property is to: protect the marsh migration corridor of the adjacent, recently restored Kickemuit River estuary; protect the integrity of Warren’s Green Belt; provide natural, cultural, and agricultural educational opportunities for the community, and preserve a part of the indigenous Sowams Heritage Area in perpetuity.
WCAD is committed to working with local, state, and federal partners to seek funding for the land or development rights purchase. Once acquired, surveying, planning, restoration, public access and educational programs will begin, allowing visitors to learn about and enjoy the rich natural and cultural resources of this area.
