Save Kings Norton Library

The Issue

Because of Birmingham City Council's financial crisis, it is looking to massively cut its Library Budget in 2024 and 2025. This is going to include cutting the number of libraries from 36 to 11 and unless community groups can be found to run the other 25, they will close.

The Council hasn’t said which ones will be kept or cut, so Kings Norton Library could be closed.

Open 5 days a week, Kings Norton Library is a vital well-used resource to residents of Kings Norton, the three estates, Hawkesley and beyond.

From reading and borrowing books to helping people get online (including applying for a lot of benefits e.g. Universal Credit), and all the community activities that are run from this space. It’s a vital space.

We don’t know which Libraries and Youth Centres will be cut. But we do know that often Kings Norton and areas nearby get forgotten when it comes to funding and local services. We shouldn’t lose our Library because of a mess local residents didn’t cause.

Kings Norton Library needs to be kept open. We have to send a strong message to Birmingham City Council to protect our Library and keep it open.
