The Issue

We, Kiambu citizens, call for the immediate intervention of the National Government on the the following issues:-

THAT

1) There is a continued doctors strike in Kiambu county for more than three months. Collapse of this critical component of health service has occasioned more than 300 deaths every month, while many more patients are suffering in silence. Court cases and political wrangles cannot be a substitute for a compromised healthcare.

THAT

2) The recommended World Health Organization doctor-to-population ratio is one (1) Doctor to one thousand (1000) people.  Currently Kiambu County ratio stand at one (1) doctor to eleven ( 11,000) people.

This is unacceptable!

We call to the Kiambu County Government to raise the ratio to at least one (1) doctor to five thousand (5000) people as we gradually target the recommended WHO ratio.

THAT

3) Health is one of the critical national priorities where hefty resources and efforts have been injected to improve Primary and Universal healthcare.

Despite health being a devolved function, Kenya is a Unitary State, the National Government holds supreme authority over any subordinate government. It is this authority, we the citizens are asking the National Government to invoke to restore the desirable healthcare standards in Kiambu county.

THAT

The stalemate with the doctors' strike has persisted for over 100 days and there seems to be ground standing resulting to untold death and suffering for the people of Kiambu

OUR DEMAND:

We demand the immediate end of the doctors strike and restoration of all health services in all Kiambu County hospitals
