A luxury hotel can be built anywhere. Kaziranga cannot.

Kaziranga is not just another tourist destination.

It is a living ecosystem. It is home to the iconic one-horned rhinoceros, elephants, tigers, wild buffalo, birds and countless other species. It is a landscape shaped by forests, grasslands, wetlands and rivers—and by generations of communities who live alongside it.

Yet the areas around Kaziranga are increasingly being considered for large-scale tourism and luxury development.

We have to ask: How much development is too much?

Tourism can bring employment and economic opportunities. But tourism should not mean turning fragile wildlife landscapes into luxury commercial zones.

🛑 WE SAY: PROTECT KAZIRANGA BEFORE BUILDING MORE.

We call upon the Government of Assam, environmental authorities, wildlife authorities and all relevant decision-makers to pause and thoroughly scrutinise large-scale luxury hotel and resort projects around Kaziranga.

Before another hotel is approved, we demand:

🌿 Independent assessment of environmental impacts

🦏 Protection of wildlife habitats and movement corridors

🌳 No destruction or fragmentation of ecologically important areas

🏡 Protection of the rights and livelihoods of local communities

💧 Assessment of impacts on water, wetlands, flooding and the wider ecosystem

📋 Complete transparency about land, project proposals and environmental clearances

👥 Meaningful consultation with local communities and independent conservation experts

THIS IS NOT ANTI-TOURISM.

We welcome responsible tourism that allows people to experience Kaziranga while protecting what makes it special.

But there is a fundamental difference between eco-conscious tourism and development that puts commercial interests ahead of ecological limits.

A rhinoceros cannot speak at a public hearing.

An elephant cannot object to a road cutting through its habitat.

A forest cannot file a petition when it is fragmented.

That responsibility falls on us.

Once a wildlife corridor is disrupted or an ecosystem is permanently damaged, no luxury hotel can undo the loss.

Kaziranga has survived for generations.

Our generation should not be the one that chooses profit over its protection.
