John Jay College has decided to close down their Communications and Theater Department. The closing of this department will be taking effect at the end of the Spring 2023, which will affect all student's at John Jay College. The department has helped many students make sense of their lives, overcome fear, and gain confidence. Not only does it act as an outlet for students to get in touch with their inner-beings, it allows them to understand the people around the world. Art is an important curriculum to have. It helps develops motor skills, language skills, decision making, risk taking and inventiveness. Getting rid of the Communication and Theater department has the student community at John Jay college saddened and outraged. Considering the fact that John Jay is mainly a Criminal Justice, theater is one of the few places where students can interact and engage in the arts. It gives them the chance to escape from the stress in their daily lives. By signing this petition you can help us bring awareness to the Karol Mason, President of John Jay College, to make a change to their decision to exclude Theatre from their academic curriculum.
