The Issue

Every weekend, as residents of the beautiful Jack Darling Park in Mississauga, we witness with heavy hearts the rampant misuse and neglect of our cherished green space. My friend was recently hit by an e-bike rider who not only refused to apologize but insisted on their right of way over pedestrians. This alarming incident is just one example of the many challenges our community faces.

Every weekend, visitors flock to Jack Darling Park to enjoy nature's bounty; however, the park is left strewn with litter, and individuals light unauthorized fires, laying waste to our beautiful environment. These acts of negligence and disrespect are threatening the safety and serenity of not only the park but also the community that calls this place home.

Moreover, the misuse of e-bikes and other motorized vehicles within the park has become an increasing safety concern. The lack of accountability has emboldened individuals to infringe upon the rights and safety of pedestrians, leaving many feeling vulnerable during what should be peaceful outings.

To protect our park and its visitors, we propose the following measures: introduce paid car access to curb the influx of vehicles, thereby reducing congestion and encouraging responsible park usage. Secondly, implement regular patrols by park security to enforce existing regulations and address unruly behavior in real-time. Finally, establish strict fines for littering and unauthorized activities such as open fires, ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions.

We believe these actions will not only enhance the safety and enjoyment of Jack Darling Park but also preserve its natural beauty for future generations. Our park is a treasure that deserves our care and respect. We urge the authorities to prioritize these changes. Please sign this petition to make Jack Darling Park a safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable place for all.
