Save Jace Beleren! Magic: The Gathering's Iconic Character At Risk
The Issue
Fellow Magic: the Gathering fans,
There is a tragedy about to take place in the Multiverse, and we need your help! Please help us save our favorite telepath, Jace Beleren! We do not want to see this amazing character discarded from the story and we're not the only ones out there. You may think it's silly to start a petition of a fictional character, but please read ahead to see our reasons why. All we ask is for your time and your signature to ensure this great character is preserved.

The Issue
The recent spoilers for Magic: The Gathering’s new set, Phyrexia: All Will Be One, have revealed that Jace Beleren has been compleated. We don’t want this amazing character to die! We want to see his compleation reverted, hopefully within the upcoming sets March of the Machine and March of the Machine: The Aftermath.
The Solution
We’re posting this petition to send a peaceful message to Wizards of the Coast about how much this character means to the Magic community in the hopes that the upcoming sets will address the issue properly and save Jace from death or compleation! We feel Magic would lose a great deal if this character were no longer present in the series. Hopefully, this petition will raise the company’s awareness and they will not write Jace's death or permanent compleation into the canon.
The Backstory
For me personally, the author of this post, Jace means a great deal to me and is more than just my favorite fictional character. He’s taught me a lot, like how it's okay to make mistakes as long as you're trying and getting better. I see myself in him as someone who simply wants to be accepted by friends and family for who he is and how he can help the world, even if he is unconventional. I want to create comics and illustrations, maybe even one day working for Wizards of the Coast and have struggled with being accepted as an artist if only because of how unlucrative it is. But people don't realize how much art helps the world, and that's why I relate to Jace.
It's art and Jace himself that helped me from giving up. Following Jace's story got me through depression, OCD, and gave me purpose in the face of utter despair. He not only let me escape from reality, if only momentarily, but gave me something to work for. My mother was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, and the doctors gave her six months to live. She battled for four hard, well-earned years before it became too much. And I cannot tell you how much I just wanted to give up during that period, knowing one day I'd have to live without my momma there to guide me. But through all that hardship, there was Jace, a symbol of what I loved and what I wanted to do with my life, and he reminded me to keep going -- to make my momma proud. And he still does, even though she's gone now.
That's what Jace means to me, and I hope you'll consider sharing your stories with WotC about what Jace means to you. This is why fiction is important. It can teach us valuable life lessons and can keep us going. I'm the one most invested in Jace, but my and friends and I (hence writing as "we") are all upset about this development. If it's temporary and Jace has to develop past this trauma, great! WotC can ignore this, and we look forward to seeing Jace's character cope with the battle ahead. We're sure it will be well-written as always. But if they're planning on something else, we just want to show how sad we'd be.
The Rules
Please do not send any hate or threats to Wizards of the Coast! This is meant to be a peaceful demonstration of how much we love this character! We only want to open a line of communication. You can show your support by;
- Signing this petition
- Contacting them on social media with a peaceful note about how much (and what) Jace means to you
- Sending a digital, respectful letter to WotC at: https://support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
- Sending a physical, respectful letter to WotC’s offices
Or any combination of the above. These avenues are publicly available and sanctioned by the company. Do not target individuals or company accounts on social media! If you don’t like Jace as a character, then ignore this and move on! Please do not send the creators of this petition any hate mail either!
Even if you feel completely neutral towards Jace, consider signing anyway since he is loved by your fellow community members. Or, share it on your social media even if you don't sign yourself. Every click counts.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and we look forward to seeing your support.
