Save Indoor Tennis at Lee Valley

Save Indoor Tennis at Lee Valley
The Issue
As a dedicated member of the vibrant tennis community at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre (LVHTC) in Stratford, London, I am deeply concerned about the recent decision made by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority (LVRPA) Executive Committee on June 19th. The proposal to replace indoor tennis facilities with Padel courts, without any community consultation, is a blow to all of us who rely on accessible and affordable year-round tennis.
We, the undersigned, call on The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority to reject any proposal to convert the indoor tennis courts at Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre, Eton Manor, Stratford (E20) to padel courts.
This iconic venue:
• Was purpose-built following the 2012 Paralympics and houses four indoor US Open quality courts.
• Continues to host grassroots over 55, county, elite, and wheelchair tennis on publicly accessible courts.
• Supports local schools, universities, disability groups and Paralympic athletes.
• Anchors the Olympic Park’s heritage to Metropolitan Open Land and at the heart of sports provision bere.
We believe replacing these facilities with commercial padel courts will reduce public access to essential sports infrastructure, erode Olympic legacy, severely affect the development of UK tennis talent, and damage community wellbeing. There is a great shortage of indoor tennis facilities, locally, regionally and nationally, and these courts are some of the finest in the country.
Please defend this irreplaceable public asset.
Please join me in urging the LVRPA and GLL to retain the indoor tennis facilities at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre. Let's protect the Olympic legacy and ensure that tennis remains a key offering in East London, promoting an active and inclusive community. Sign the petition to show your support in preserving our beloved tennis facilities.
