SAVE INDOOR MOTORSPORTS AT EVERGREEN STATE FAIRGROUNDS
SAVE INDOOR MOTORSPORTS AT EVERGREEN STATE FAIRGROUNDS
The Issue
The owners of WHR Motorsports received a letter from the Evergreen State Fairgrounds stating that after hosting events every winter since 1987, they will not be renewing their contract for indoor motorsports. the building has a history of indoor motorsports since the mid-'70s.
They note that the decision was not made lightly, but it should also be noted that it will affect the community of Monroe Washington in many ways, specifically financially. The events held at the Evergreen state fairgrounds have brought hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions to the community. Hotel bookings, restaurant income, fuel purchases, and tax and lease payments to the county and the city of Monroe are just a few revenue generators that the community has experienced over the last 50 years.
They've offered families a place to compete in various ways with their offroad vehicles for youth and adults in Snohomish county.
To put it not so lightly, this will be a devastating loss to the local community that has supported it continuously for the last 50 years. a loss that is compounded by the fact that there is no other venue to properly replace it.
