The Issue
For more than 50 years, Huntsville Quarter Midget Association (HQMA) has given kids a safe place to learn racing, sportsmanship, confidence, and lifelong skills. Families travel from across the United States to Madison County to race here, bringing both community impact and economic value. Now, this tradition is at risk. After December, HQMA will be forced to shut down because Madison County will not renew the lease on the track. The association has agreed to pay the lease amount set by Councilman Phil Riddick, but despite repeated attempts, no agreement has been finalized. This is about more than racing. It's about preserving a community where children learn discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Skills that will guide them far beyond the track. We, the undersigned, urge Madison County officials to: Renew HQMA's lease and allow the association to continue operating. Recognize the value HQMA brings to youth, families, and the community. Work with HQMA to ensure this program has a permanent home in Madison County. Taking away this track means taking away a positive outlet for kids who call HQMA home. Let's make sure the checkered flag keeps waving for the next generation. Contact: Phil Riddick dist5@madisoncountyal.gov 256-532-3497
