Save Hunterdon Central's youth support services program

Save Hunterdon Central's youth support services program
The Issue
We, the undersigned stakeholders and community members, are deeply concerned that the Board has not yet voted on CarePlus for the 2025–26 school year. Without timely action, there may not be enough time to ensure these critical services remain in place for our students.
CarePlus is a vital part of the school-based youth services offered alongside traditional student assistance counseling (SAC). While the school funds many enriching activities such as sports and theatre and values their importance, some students—including those who participate in extracurriculars—require more targeted support to thrive. CarePlus identifies and supports those students, filling the gap by bridging school and personal challenges through integrated services offered both within and beyond the Aspire program.
These CarePlus on-site professionals do not provide private mental health counseling or prescribe medication; instead, they focus on building skills, increasing knowledge, and equipping teachers and families to help students succeed in school. They conduct suicide assessments, support students who might otherwise require costly out-of-district placement, and help them remain engaged in their education. These services also reduce absences for outside appointments and address health issues—such as migraines, stomach concerns, and anxiety—that can interfere with learning.
This program is not only an efficient use of taxpayer dollars but also directly boosts student achievement. If you believe in student success, you know how essential CarePlus is—and cost-effective CarePlus is. We urge the Board to act now to ensure it continues for the 2025–26 school year.
