Save Hornsey Lane Estate Community Nursery – Give Our Children a Chance!
The Issue
We, the parents, carers, staff, and community members of Hornsey Lane Estate, are devastated by the sudden and unjust closure of the nursery and after school provision at Hornsey Lane Estate Community Centre, set to happen on 4th April 2025.
This nursery has been a pillar of our local community for many years, caring for, educating, and supporting children and families from all walks of life. Children feel safe here. Parents trust the team. Staff have dedicated years of their lives to supporting young children with care, creativity, and love.
Yes, recent issues were raised in the Ofsted inspection on 5 March 2025. However, the nursery was not ordered to close. In fact, Ofsted gave a Welfare Requirements Notice with a clear improvement deadline of 10 April 2025 - a window of time for changes and recovery.
Despite this, the Trustees and the Centre Manager made the decision to shut down the nursery early, giving families and staff just days notice. No real opportunity was given to improve, or work with Islington Council to save this service. Children, staff, and parents are now being forced to leave with no support, no plan, and no compassion.
We say this is not acceptable.
We demand:
-That the Trustees and Centre Manager pause the closure and consider alternative options.
-That Islington Council intervenes to support improvements and maintain provision.
-That the staff are given a fair chance to implement Ofsted’s required changes.
-That local leadership values children’s continuity, safety, and wellbeing.
There are still several days until the Ofsted deadline. This setting could be improved, supported, or restructured, not abandoned. The children and families deserve better.
Please stand with us. Sign and share this petition. Let’s make our voices heard for the children, for the families, and for the future of early years care in our community.
