Save Historical St Paul’s Anglican Church Bankstown

The issue

We, the residents from Canterbury-Bankstown Council municipality and beyond, members of Bankstown Historical Society, committee of Bankstown RSL Sub-Branch parishioners of Bankstown St Paul’s Anglican Church and friends and families associated with Bankstown St Paul’s past and present, urgently seek permanent heritage protection for St Paul’s Anglican Church from demolition.

St Paul’s Anglican Church Bankstown has served the region since 1912 and the building has held and still holds high heritage significance. It is also sacred site as a number of ex-servicemen have memorial within the church. The building not only portrays a dedicated & iconic place of worship it has been spiritual home built by the community. St Paul’s very existence is a living testament to its local endeavour, fundraising of parishioners and social significance across the past century.

We are concerned soon to be finalised Bankstown Master Plan which has allowed zoning for the St Paul’s church site to be developed for up to 22 storey of residential tower and mixed business.

An interim heritage order was placed on St Paul's in 2015.and a heritage report by Sue Rosen Associates was prepared which deemed the Church to be of high heritage value. But this heritage order was revoked as councillors voted not to protect the church, disregarding the independent council commissioned study, peer review and advice from its own heritage committee.

There are too many our national heritage icons being neglected and forgotten, destroyed in the name of development. It is our birthright to keep our rich history alive and save this irreplaceable gift entrusted by the generations past and for generations to come.

Please help us to save historical St Paul’s Anglican Church Bankstown!

St Paul's Watercolour Sketch Book is now available in English and Chinese and can be purchased online $10 including postage.
