A few weeks back, I wrote about some no parking signs by the tree in order for crews to evaluate options around the tree. We have recently learned that the work has since been rescheduled to the next two days. Let's hope for good news soon! A quick summary follows:
On April 15th, utility and city crews will conduct exploratory work at a residential address using dry vacuum excavation to expose underground electrical infrastructure (transformer, pad, and ducts) for inspection. A planned power outage will accompany this work, along with some disruption to frontage landscaping. Affected areas will be temporarily restored with backfill, topsoil, and seed, with full restoration deferred until future infrastructure replacement work.
On April 16th, city parks staff will separately assess the surrounding tree root system to evaluate impacts on neighbouring private property infrastructure. Affected homeowners at both properties have been contacted and have consented.
City staff expect to present elected officials with a high-level overview of available options, estimated costs, and associated impacts within approximately two weeks of the exploratory work concluding. Any option requiring a redesign of the infrastructure replacement is estimated to take one to two months for planning.
