Save Historical Sequoia Tree in Richmond BC

The Issue

A majestic pair of Sequoia trees have lined the sides of Princeton Avenue in Richmond BC for 80+ years. They have been growing here since the neighbourhood was still a farm.

Last week, for just a couple hours, BC Hydro left a notice on the tree giving 48 hours notice that it was to be cut down. The sign was gone by Saturday morning and very few residents of the neighbourhood knew that this was happening. As the news spread by word of mouth, it became clear to us that many of us do not want this tree to come down. BC Hydro was informed the city that there is no other way and the tree must come down. This morning, March 11, workers/security came to block off the neighbourhood for the tree cutting to begin, but were blocked by members of City Council. An emergency meeting has been called for later today.

Please join us in asking for a review to ensure that all options are considered and this piece of our local history can be preserved if at all possible.
