SAVE HISTORIC BINSCOMBE

The Issue

A planning application to build 27 dwellings (affordable houses) on a field (marked in red on the above image) between Copse Side and Binscombe has recently been made by the agents of the land owner, Michael More-Molyneux of Loseley (WA/2023/01714).

In 2018, a similar application for a lesser 21 dwellings was refused by the Waverley Planning Committee.  An appeal followed but this was dismissed by an independent Government Inspector, a specialist in planning law.  In the dismissal, he noted...."The proposal....would cause a harmful impact on the setting of the Binscombe Conservation Area." and "..would have a harmful effect on the significance of the heritage asset'"...and ..."this would create an urbanising effect on the approach, introducing a new built form which would be harmful to an important part of the rural significance of the Conservation Area". (Marked in blue on the above image).

The site would be accessed by a narrow country lane slightly more than 4 metres wide, lacking any nearby footpaths.  Cyclists and pedestrians are already severely at risk and this development would simply compound the danger.

Binscombe is a Medieval village, first recorded in 1227 and the residents of Binscombe, Farncombe and further afield feel strongly that this ancient part of Surrey is worth preserving and should not be subjected to an obviously inappropriate development.  If allowed, this new housing estate together with 57 car parking spaces, would permanently scar the rural landscape.

Local amenities, including the Doctor's surgery are already overstretched.

This application simply makes no sense and is an arrogant attempt to overturn a clear decision, based on local and national planning law.

CPRE have objected, as have The Godalming Trust and Compton Parish Council, plus over 200 individuals... please help to make it more.

Thank you.
